Children dream that we would win and return to the place where it is safe and familiar – home: stories of little Belarusians who fled from the war. Children dream that we win and return to the place where it is safe and familiar – home: stories of little Belarusians who fled from the war.

Oksana Dobryanets, a Belarusian journalist from Stolin, created the project “Childhood in Exile,” which tells the stories of Belarusian refugee children who first fled from the Lukashenko regime and then from the war in Ukraine. This is a project about how children experience emigration, adapt to new conditions, miss their home, or have already come to terms with the fact that their home is where their family is here and now.

We have chosen the stories of 10 Belarusian children who have experienced more than many adults in the past two years. Some woke up to the February 24 bombing and then had to walk with their parents to the Polish border for almost a week, while others had to learn at age 5 to distinguish between Russian and Ukrainian military uniforms and to learn what helicopters and bombs look like.

We tell the stories of little Belarusians here

You can support the project by buying a shopper and mugs with the children’s version of Pogoña. To get in touch, send personal messages on Instagram and Telegram.
